What is the Solid Waste Management Round Table Bengaluru? The Solid Waste Management Round Table (SWMRT) was formed in October 2009 by a group of like-minded organizations and highly skilled individuals who have been working to build awareness of and promote the adoption of best practices in waste management at houses, apartment complexes, corporations, schools/colleges, and public offices across Bengaluru. The SWMRT is run as an initative under The Anonymous Indian, a charitable trust.
The vision of the SWMRT is to bring the Municipal Waste Management Rules 2000 and its recommendations to life in Bengaluru by promoting the all important basic step of segregating waste at source and adoption of the 3R's - reduce, reuse, recycle.
The SWMRT believes that everyone needs to exercise their responsibility, be it social, corporate, or otherwise, and start managing waste from the point of generation, whether in houses, apartment complexes, corporations, schools/colleges, or public offices. Radio Active - JGI's Community Radio StationThe Jain Group of Institution's Community Based Radio Station, Radio Active CR 90.4 MHz, is a community radio station which reaches out to Bangalore's masses on issues concerning health, environment, development, scientific awareness, women, social issues, etc, in turn seeking to inform and educate while entertaining the public. YIMBYYes In My Back Yard is a group of highly motivated individuals who have decided to take on the responsibility to organize waste collection, segregation, and disposal 'in their back yard.' It's Yours!A campaign run by The Anonymous Indian Trust, Reclaim Bengaluru aims to create awareness around waste and the impact that it has on the environment, the future of the city, and therefore, on our children. The Green CowA second campaign run by The Anonymous Indian Trust which helps kids who want to create awareness amongst grown ups on how waste will impact their future wellbeing. Project Green DiamondAn initiative of the Rotary Bangalore Diamond District that thrives to train the housekeeping staff not only to segregate waste but also sell it and use the money for the benefit of the staff. Set up as a subsidiary of the Mythri Sarva Seva Samithi, it promotes citizen participation in civic cleanliness, waste segregation, waste minimization, and recycling, working towards the development of people involved in waste picking activities. Habitat for HumanityHFH is a global organization which works in more than 93 countries and has been in India for the past 26 years. During that time, HFH has constructed over 35,000 and supported 175,000 families throughout the country. It works in partnership with local, grass root NGO's and micro-finance orgs to reach people in need of decent housing through a 'one-third' model: It also has a disaster response team that helps rebuild homes and rehouse families in times of emergency, such as tsunami or monsoon rains. HFH joined the SWMRT to bring in the solid waste management as standard model into their projects.
